Black bull of Clare, Duke of Clarence
A livery badge depicting the 'black bull of Clare', a badge of the royal house of York. The badge was worn by George, Duke of Clarence, and by his retinue of 120 men-at-arms and 1000 archers when setting out with the king's expedition to France in 1475. Supporters of the noble families fighting for power during the Wars of the Roses wore badges to show their allegiance.
