Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin of Emperor Nero, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 54-68. The back of the coin depicts Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture and fertility, and Annona, the female personification of Rome's grain supply. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 64-68.
Obv: Laureate head of Nero, facing left. Obv inscription: [NER]O CLAVD CAESAR AVG [GER PM TR P IMP PP]. Rev: Ceres, seated left, holding corn ears in her right hand and a torch in the left, Annona is standing before her, holding a cornucopia, with an altar, the prow of a corn ship and a modius between them. Rev inscription: ANN[ONA AVGV]STI CERES, SC in exergue.
