Printed Ephemera — 1840-1849
Card, valentine card
Comic valentine's card printed as a woodcut on cheap paper with a caricature of a seamstress. The print is crudely coloured and below is printed a verse, 'Oh, yes! I well remember, yet do not think me loose, Full long indeed, yes, very long, I've sought a living goose; But not a goose like you, my love, with loose and heavy tread, With pennyworth's of wax and pins--the single ounce of thread. The slipshod air, the vacant stare, the flimsy look and grin, Is such a shop--I wouldn't stop--nor cast a look therein; Go, frumpy maiden, who could kiss, so badly built a chop? The very counterpart, indeed, of queer Old Doctor Slop.'
