Sign, environmentalist's marker flag
The Plumstead Common Environmental Group donated this flag to the Museum's Collecting 2000 project. The group was formed in 1991 by people who were concerned that their local environment was suffering from a lack of care. In 2000, there were over 200 members. The group wrote:
Litter and the dumping of rubbish, and consequent degrading of the environment, have always been at the heart of our Group's activities. The litter picker symbolises our hands-on approach to improving the area where we live.'
