The Hospital for Consumption and Diseases of the Chest, now erecting at Brompton
The Hospital for Consumption and Diseases of the Chest, now erecting at Brompton. Dedicated "To His Royal Highness, Prince Albert of Saxe Coburg and Gotha" by the architect, Frederick John Francis. The hospital - the first in London to admit consumptive patients - was founded following a fundraising campaign started in 1841 and the foundation stone for this building in Brompton was laid in 1844 by Prince Albert. It opened in 1846, replacing temporary premises at Manor House, Chelsea, and was extended in 1854 and 1879. Please refer to 80.501/545 for a depiction of the same building.
