Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1838-1850
Holborn Hill, London - St Andrews Church.
Holborn Hill, London - St Andrews Church. Rebuilt by Wren, much altered but restored after bombing, the church survives in Holborn Circus. The name Charles Meeking is prominently displayed on one of the shops in front of the church, and there is much traffic of persons and vehicles in the foreground. "[London : 1838 (or later)]. A charming small antique print of Holborn, showing the church from the north, the top of Shoe Lane, and (to the right of the church) the imposing showrooms of Charles Meeking - purveyor of "family linens, silks, lace, haberdashery and carpets". Originally produced as an illustration for Part 3 of "Tallis's London Street Views" (London 1838-1840) and here in a slightly later form with an additional engraved border and surtitle." - http://www.ashrare.com/holborn_prints.html
