Printed Ephemera — 1995-2000
Print, portrait print
This portrait of Queen Kimpa Vita was given to the museum by the Kimosi Kia Bakongo Association, based in Tottenham. The organisation was set up to provide counselling on housing and social issues and to maintain cultural links between people originating from Angola, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Queen Kimpa Vita symbolises the fight for Bakongo liberty. In 1998 civil war began in the Democratic Republic of Congo, causing an exodus of Congolese people.
