Box, nib box
Box of Eden Fisher's turkey quill pen nibs. Eden Fisher founded his printing and stationery business at 50 Lombard Street in 1873. Quills were used for writing before the invention of metal nibbed pens. Quills made from turkey feathers were popular with professionals because they produced a precise line and were strong so lasted a long time. With the invention and introduction of metal nibs stationers used the name 'turkey quill' to imply quality and durability rather than to describe the materials used to make the nib.
