An Explanation of the View of Rome taken from the Tower of the Capitol
Description of the panoramic view of the City of Rome by R R Reinagle exhibited at Thomas Barker's Panorama on the Strand, 1802-1803.
Enclosed within green covers with a handwritten title, the booklet comprises a thirty nine page written description and illustrated plan with a key.
Thomas Barker was the son of Robert Barker who ran the original and first purpose built Panorama in Leicester Square.
Thomas opened his own Panorama on the Strand in 1802 initially, in partnership with the panorama painter, Ramsay Reinagle who had previously painted panoramas for Thomas's Father. The View of Rome painted by Reinagle was the first panorama painting to be exhibited at The Strand when it opened to the public on 11th July 1803.
