Printed Ephemera — 1881-1900
Card, valentine card
Valentine's card in the form of a twelve page booklet printed with love verses and illustrations and covered with a stiffened cloth cover. The verses are printed in gold lettering, the illustrations are also part gilded and part coloured in pale, muted colours. The front cover is of blue cotton with an applied silver and white embossed lace paper border. Within the border is applied an motif of two red silk roses with silk leaves. Below is applied a motto 'My Heart is in thy keeping', possibly of ivory. The back cover is now damaged and the decoration has been destroyed. Both covers are edged with a cream silk fringe and the card is opened by two blue silk tassles attached to the front cover.
