Post-Medieval — Tudor; 15th-16th century
Sheath
Leather knife sheath. The front is decorated with impressed and stamped linear motifs and panels of stamped dots; similar decoration on the back along with incised crescents. It has been suggested that this sheath is made from a larger sheath which has been cut down for re-use. The mouth has a central dip cut in it, the cut going through the design motifs, which would indicate some re-use of a larger item. The back has a centre back seam with quite crude flesh/grain stitch holes, perhaps again indicating re-use of an older piece. The crudeness of the seam may also indicate that this sheath was reused as a sheath lining. There is some damage to the back.
