Printed Ephemera — 1845-1850
Truth
Valentine's card comprising a lace paper top sheet embossed with floral, heart and arrow design surrounding a central panel of cotton net gauze. Applied to the gauze is a paper garland held aloft by two cherub figures and a paper figure of a female angel. This panel has a silver embossed paper frame and above is applied a piece of paper printed 'Truth'. Inside the card is applied a second identical lace paper sheet cut to a smaller size. The central panel of this sheet is decorated with a handcoloured drawing of an idyllic lakeside scene with a moon and includes a small paper image of a woman reclining against rocks. When the card is closed this decoration shows through the gauze panel.
