Box, card index box

This card index was used until 1983 in the offices of C T Bowring, one of London's leading insurance brokers.

In 1983 the company was undergoing change having been taken over by the American brokers, Marsh & McLellan in 1980. By enabling the American firm to become a broker at Lloyds, the takeover created a truly global company, a mark of the globalization that transformed the City of London in the 1980s. Many old office practices were abandoned. In the 1990s Bowring’s old office block at Tower Hill was demolished and replaced by the present Tower Place complex.
