Printed Ephemera — 1810-1838
Card, valentine card
Handfinished Valentine's card comprising a top sheet with a cream lace paper border embossed with vase and flower design surrounding a central rectangular panel. Applied to the panel are six oval shaped paper medallions with a gilded and white lace paper border. Each medallion has a handwritten question, the answer to which is revealed handwritten on the panel below when the medallions are flapped down. The questions include 'Why is the letter d like a wedding ring' answer 'we cannot be wed without it'. In between the medallions are applied pink paper pressed leaves. The decoration has probably been applied at a later date than the production of the lace paper sheet by Dobbs.
