Boot, ankle boot
Woman's ankle boots (pair). Grey (Mauve) wool (now faded) with beige leather toe caps and laces at the sides. Leather sole. Round toe with leather cap. No heel. Straight sole; well worn; stamped '36' (Paris point size); inscribed '1828', 20th century addition?. Turnshoe construction. Stitched over cap; front and back seams hand sewn. Lacing up inside, eleven pairs of holes; dull turquoise blue binding; one mauve silk original lace knotted at bottom, other end broken; inverted V pattern; other lace is brown replacement in inverted V, both ends used; black tag, 4.8 cm. Right boot has round ended tongue in same material as upper, pieced and beige bound; left boot is grey pieced, beige bound. Upper has probably been walked on and now patched with green and beige (?) leather and sole seam opened to insert patch; four stitches per 2.5 cm. Natural linen sock also pieced; tape reinforcement over back seam; stiffener between upper and lining. Working class.
