Police Appeal: Brick Lane Bomb
Handbill printed in colour, published by the Metropolitan Police appealing for witnesses to a bombing incident in Hanbury Street on 24 April 1999. It is written in English, Punjabi, Somali and Urdu. Over three successive weekends in April and May 1999 a lone bomber targeted London's minority communities. He placed nail bombs in Brixton Market where many people of West Indian descent lived, Brick Lane which was home to a sizeable Bangladeshi community, and Old Compton Street, a gay neighbourhood. No warnings were given prior to detonation of the bombs and three people died in the Admiral Duncan pub in Old Compton Street. Many others were seriously injured. The bomber admitted at his trial to being a member of the BNP and of the National Socialist Movement, a neo-Nazi organisation.
