Pot, pomade pot
Such pots with finely coloured printed covers became popular during the second half of the 19th century. They contained material such as food-stuffs, pastes and cosmetics. Their bright decoration attracted customers who kept them as ornaments and small boxes after their contents had been used. Two Stafforshire pottery firms specialised in their manufacture - F & R Pratt of Fenton and T J & J Mayer of Longport. The lid of this pot is decorated with a view of Buckingham Palace.
