Mr Dale as Claude Amboine
Handcoloured theatrical souvenir plate engraved with a portrait of the actor Mr Dale in the role of Claude Amboine. The portrait has been cut from a paper sheet and applied to a pane of glass. Beneath the glass is inserted a card sheet handcoloured with background scenery. The portrait is decorated with applied clothing of shaded silk, heavily embellished with tinsel ornaments. The sword, scabbard & pistol are also covered with tinsel ornaments. The portrait was tinselled by the donor's widow A. Jas. Gray. between 1912 & 1914. The portrait was however printed on March 20th 1843 by W.G.Webb.
