Printed Ephemera — 1837-1840
Mr Asbury as Laundri
Souvenir theatrical portrait of the actor Mr Asbury in the role of Laundri and his encounter with the dog Neptune in the play The Forest of Bondy. The portrait is handcoloured and embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the dress accessories. The clothing and the dog are covered with cotton and silk. The portrait has been cut from a paper sheet and mounted on card hand coloured with background scenery. Such portraits would have been sold plain for colouring and tinselling at home. Pre-punched tinsel ornaments were also available to purchase from the publisher.
