Badge, lapel badge
The Millennium Dome was commissioned by the New Millennium Experience Company to mark the beginning of the new millennium. Designed by the architects Richard Rogers, the Dome was part of the wider redevelopment of the Greenwich Peninsula which began in 1997. The project was funded by the Millennium Commission, a government quango which coordinated millennium projects and events nationally using money raised by the National Lottery. The Commission awarded the New Millennium Experience Company £449 million pounds to develop the Millennium Experience at Greenwich and an additional £1.98 million pounds for the London celebrations on New Year's Eve 1999.
The Dome contained around 20 visitor attractions. In the event 6.5 million people visited the Dome during the year 2000 making it the biggest visitor attraction in the UK. This badge was purchased from the Millennium Experience at the Dome prior to its opening.
