Archaeology — Middle Saxon; 8th century
Iron, cauldron
This iron cauldron could have been hung over the fire, though it was found with an iron trivet which it could stand on. It would have been used for cooking stews and meat. Excavations show that Anglo- Saxon Londoners ate beef, pork, mutton and a wide range of vegetables.
