Bowl
Part of a decorated samian bowl, form Dragendorff 37 made in the pottery at La Graufesenque in South Gaul. It is decorated with mid-period saltire panels either side of a running rabbit and seated figure, with a cherub. The sherds were found in a 1st-century AD pit during the excavation of the site of Lloyd's in Lime Street, London EC3. Samian ware is high-quality Roman tableware made in Gaul (modern-day France) and exported throughout the empire.
