Printed Ephemera — 1830-1860
Tea paper, wrapping paper
Wood-engraved paper sheet used for wrapping small quantities of loose tea and coffee purchased from J Roberts and company's tea establishment located at 31 Barbican . The sheet is engraved with the name and address of the merchant and a circular engraving representing a Russian travelling through the snow in a sledge Entitled 'The Russian Puzzle ' the engraving was one in a series produced by the tea merchant depicting scenes of Russian life. As well as publicising the business marketing incentives such as the incorporation of puzzles and games in wrapping papers were employed by tea and coffee merchants to promote sales and encourage customer loyalty.
