Printed Ephemera — 1830-1860
Tea paper, wrapping paper
Wood-engraved paper sheet used for wrapping small quantities of loose tea and coffee purchased from Lawrence and company's tea and coffee warehouse located at 89 Whitecross Street . The sheet is engraved with the name and address of the merchant and a circular engraving representing a scene from the life of Napoleon. Entitled 'The Napoleon Puzzle' the engraving was one in a series depicting the life of Napoleon published by the merchant. As well as publicising the business marketing incentives such as the incorporation of puzzles and games in wrapping papers were employed by tea and coffee merchants to promote sales and encourage customer loyalty.
