Printed Ephemera — 1848-1899
Trade card
Engraved trade card publicising the gunmaking business of John Blanch and Son, located at 29 Gracechurch Street, London. Such cards would have been pasted to the lining on the inside lid of gun cases to identify the maker of the guns stored within. The red fabric lining attached to the card indicates this example was directly cut out from a gun case.
John Blanch established his gunmaking business in 1809. Initially based at Fish Street Hill the business moved to 29 Gracechurch Street in 1826. In 1848 John's youngest son William entered into partnership with his Father and the business became known as John Blanch and Son.
