Mithras
Limestone arm of of the god Mithras, found on the site of the Roman Temple of Mithras in London. The sculpture was originally part of a depiction of Mithras killing a bull but all that surives is the left hand and forearm wearing a long sleeve. The fingers grip the fleshy upper lip of the bull. This piece was originally painted and was probably made specifically for the Mithraeum. The limestone is British, probably from the Cotswolds.
