Great Saint Helen's
Great St Helen's Church, Bishopsgate, 1886. This photograph was commissioned by the Society for Photographing Relics of Old London to form part of a permanent visual record of historic buildings threatened with alteration or possible demolition in the 1870s and 1880s. The church dates from 1210 and is one of the few churches in the City of London to survive both the Great Fire of 1666 and the Second World War Blitz. However, it was damaged by two IRA bombs in 1992 and 1993, though the doorway, seen here, remains the same today.
