Middle Temple-Fountain Court
Fountain Court, Middle Temple, 1885. This photograph was commissioned by the Society for Photographing Relics of Old London to form part of a permanent visual record of historic buildings threatened with alteration or possible demolition in the 1870s and 1880s. Middle Temple is one of the four Inns of Court, the proffesional associations which exclusively represent barristers and judges in England and Wales, and was originally founded in the 13th century. It was the headquarters of the Knights Templar until their dissolution in 1312.
