Shaftesbury House, Aldersgate Street, City of London, 1879. This photograph was commissioned by the Society for Photographing Relics of Old London which wanted to create a permanent record of historic buildings threatened with demolition in the 1870s and 1880s. Shaftesbury House was built in the early 17th century to the designs of Inigo Jones. It was demolished in the 1880s
