Jar, cinerary urn
A complete dark grey ware jar with some burnishing to the external surface. The necked jar has a sharply carinated shoulder and a cordon defining the base of the neck.
This vessel was re-used as a cinerary urn and contained cremated remains when it was found.
A label on one side of the vase tells the findspot - Thames Street, dated 1864.
