The Black Boy
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the Black Boy tavern, at Holborn Bridge.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1482A; Obv inscription: AT.THE.BLACKE.BOY (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A naked boy holding a pipe and tankard (in field); Rev inscription: AT.HOLBORNE.BRIDG (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = T.S.W. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Holborn Bridge is the ascent from Farringdon Street to Ely Place, in the London Borough of Camden, having been formerly part of Middlesex.
