Assertion of liberty of conscience by independents, in the Westminster Assembly, 1644
72 seated figures, dressed in roundhead and puritan dress, are clustered into Westminster Chamber. Various people are engaged in large demonstrative gestures, others in more intimate conversations. Most eyes are upon the central, standing speaker. The room has a stained glass window on the left, which casts shadows on the scene.
