The Queen's Head
Peter Leonard issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Great Turnstile Alley, Holborn, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3263; Obc inscription: PETER.LENARD.IN.GREAT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Bust of a queen, crowned (in field); Rev inscription: TVRNSTILE.ALLY.IN.HOLBVRN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HELFE / PENY / P.M.L. (in four lines of Roman capitals with initials as bottom, in field).
Great Turnstile Alley, lay between High Holborn and Little Queen Street (now part of the Kingsway), in Holborn, Middlesex; the area is now part of the London Borough of Camden.
