The Cock
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the Cock tavern, in Norton Folgate, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2086; Obv inscription: AT.THE.COCK.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A cock (in field); Rev inscription: NORTVN.FOLGATE.1650 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = B.E.H. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
See also, NN17968, in the museum collection. Norton Folgate used to be an area in the parish of St Botolph, in Stepney, Middlesex; the name survives in a road which forms part of the boundary between the City of London and Tower Hamlets.
