Ticket, admission ticket
A ticket of admission to a 'Welcome Home' reception held at the Guildhall on 19 May 1876 for HRH The Prince of Wales on return from his travels. Printed on cream card, the ticket is embellished with a lavish border in gold, red, green and black and incorporates elephant heads and an image of the Taj Mahal.
Between 1875 and 1876 the Prince of Wales undertook a tour of India from which he brought back a number of animals, which were moved to be housed at London Zoo. Upon his return the HMS Serapis, the ship on which the Prince sailed, was opened to the public from 15th to 20th May during which time it received 60, 920 visitors.
