Printed Ephemera — 1857
Ticket, admission ticket
This invitation admits Mr W King and 'a lady' to a formal dinner at the Guildhall on 9 November 1857. The dinner was presumably held to celebrate the Lord Mayor's Show that takes place on the second saturday in November. The Lord Mayor for the year 1857-1858, as named on the invitation, was the banker Sir Robert Walter Carden who was also elected Conservative MP for Gloucester in 1857. The invitation is printed on pale pink card within an elaborately embellished cartouche lithographed in gold, red and blue. The invitation also incorporates symbols and the crest & shield of the City of London. In the right hand corner is an authenticating red wax seal, on the left hand corner is a handwritten invitation number '119'.
