Archaeology — Saxo-Norman; 11th century
Bucket
Nearly complete wooden bucket made from 13 tapered staves (a-m) bound with three one-piece hoops, with a base made from two semi-circular oak plates held together by two dowels. One of the staves is longer than the rest and has a circular hole near the top. Most Londoners took drinking water from the river or from wells. This wooden bucket was found in the bottom of a wood-lined well near Billingsgate.
