Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 161-180. The back of the coin depicts Virtus, the personification of courage and bravery. This coin was minted in AD 179-180.
Obv: Cuirassed? and laureate bust of Marcus Aurelius, facing right. Obv inscription: M AVREL ANTONINVS AVG [TRP] (XXXIIII)?. Rev: Virtus, seated right, holding a vertical spear in her right hand and a parazonium (dagger) in the left. Rev inscription: (VIRTVS AVG IMP X COS III PP)?, SC in field.
