Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius struck by Emperor Antoninius Pius, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 138-161, to commemorate his deceased wife, Empress Faustina the Elder, c. AD 100-140. The back of the coin possibly depicts Juno, protector and patron goddess of Rome and Roman women. This coin may have been minted in Rome, Italy, AD 146.
Obv: Draped bust of Faustina I, facing right. Obv inscription: [DIVA] FAVS[TINA]. Rev: Juno, standing front, head left, extending her right hand and holding a sceptre in the left . Rev inscription: AETERNITAS, SC in field.
