Coin, nummus AE3
A copper alloy nummus of Emperor Gratian, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 367-383. The back of the coin depicts the emperor. This coin was minted in Arelate (modern day Arles, France), AD 367-375.
Obv: Draped, diademed bust of Gratian, facing right. Obv inscription: DN GRATIANVS [AVGG AVG]. Rev: Gratian, standing front, head right, holding a labarum (a military standard depicting the Chi-Rho) in his right hand and resting the left on a shield. Rev inscription: GLORIA NOVI SAECVLI.
