Christ; Sacred Monogram
Pilgrim badge or amulet depicting the sacred monogram of Jesus Christ, ‘IHC’. This openwork badge has a circular frame decorated with dots within circles. Inside the frame is the monogram, which comes from the first three letters of the Greek word for Jesus, ‘IHCVC’. The letters were believed to protect the wearers of this type of badge from harm. The bottom half of the badge is now missing but the pin on the back has survived.
