Coin, nummus AE4
A copper alloy nummus of Emperor Valens, ruler of the Eastern Roman Empire, AD 364-378. The back of the coin depicts the emperor. This coin was minted in Aquileia, Italy, AD 364-367.
Obv: Draped, cuirassed and diademed bust of Valens, facing right. Obv inscription: DN VAL[ENS P F] AVG. Rev: The emperor, advancing right, dragging a captive with his right hand and holding a labarum (a military standard depicting the Chi-Rho) in the left. Rev inscription: GLORIA ROMANORVM, SMAQS in exergue.
