Saxon & Medieval — Late Medieval; late 13th-mid 14th century
Shoe
Child's left foot toggle-fastening ankle shoe comprising a one-piece sole and virtually one-piece upper. The toggles and the separate insert to which they were attached are missing. The integral flap with two slots for fastening over the toggles remains, as does part of the central toggle. All that remains of this is a small piece of leather lace through the hole in the centre top of the vamp. The upper has a side seam at the instep. The top band is missing. A small fragment of rand survives.
