Animal remains, animal bone, musical instrument, tuning peg
Complete bone tuning peg from a kithara or large lyre. The main shaft is circular in section tapering from its junction with a triangular terminal at the upper end. The object is lathe-turned, made from a cattle long bone, with chuck marks from the lathe at each end. There is a hole at the lower end through which the string was threaded; this shows signs of wear.
In use, it is uncertain whether the peg rotated around the cross bar, or if it was inserted through it, but the size of this peg suggests that it came from a large instrument, perhaps played by a professional musician.
