Diamond point knop spoon
Silver spoon with a fig-shaped bowl, hexagonal stem and diamond knop. There is a hall mark on bowl (a crowned leopard's head and the date letter 'n' for 1490) and a maker's mark on stem. In 1300 the Goldsmiths' Company decreed that gold and silver items must be brought to Goldsmiths' Hall for testing and marking to guarantee the precious metal content. This is the origin of the term 'hallmark', and is one of the oldest forms of consumer protection.
