Saxon & Medieval — Post-Medieval
Billhook
Billhook with a portion of its wooden (beech wood) handle inside the socket. Billhooks were used to cut woody plants like bushes and tree branches. London craftworkers made tools for use in farming villages around the city. Country people also came to London to buy farm equipment, ploughs, carts and carthorses at the cattle market in Smithfield.
