Saxon & Medieval — Medieval
Comb
This is a fragment of a comb which is double-sided and made from one piece of bone or ivory. There is a marked difference in the sizes of the two sets of teeth. One side is broader and more spaced out. The thin teeth of the other side were ideal for catching lice. To have properly combed hair was an important way of keeping yourself well-groomed, especially at a time when people did not wash their hair very often.
