Saxon & Medieval — Saxo-Norman-Early Medieval; 11th-12th century
Comb
This is a fragment of a bone comb, which has two thirds of its teeth missing. It is single-sided and composite in form. To make a composite comb, flat 'tooth-plates' would be riveted between two side plates. The flat tooth-plate would then have teeth cut out of it. The side-plate is decorated with an incised line pattern and a circle and dot pattern. There are five visible iron pins on the side-plate as well.
