Skillet
Bronze skillet which would have been used for cooking like a modern saucepan. There is a loop at the junction between the bowl and the handle to give it extra strength. The skillet has three feet. Most domestic cooking was over an open fire, so cauldrons and skillets had tripod feet to raise them above the hearth. Broken pots were occasionally used as lids. Only the wealthy could afford purpose-built ovens and hearths: the poor had only basic cooking facilities or none at all.
