Jug, baluster jug
Kingston-type ware metal copy baluster jug with bichrome glazing. This type of jug was inspired by metal vessels of the time. Typically they have a long straight-sided neck with a grooved collar-rim, a rounded body and a well-defined, restricted and flared base, emphasised by vertical knife-trimming. The handle is most characteristically of sub-rectangular section, terminating on the body in a definite 'tail' and is decorated with incised vertical lines and stabbing. This jug is decorated with four separate bands of horizontal grooves around the neck and body. The bichrome effect has been achieved with clear glaze around the rim and inside the neck, and green glaze on the outside of the body.
